About the Course
Holy Communion: How Did We Get Here?
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had one thing in common: they believed in the power of the human mind to think, explain, predict, and understand life. Through logic and reason, enlightenment and harmony, these men gave us their remarkable minds.
Christ went further by giving us His own eternal body and blood. This course recognizes the preservation and practice of Communion as a Christian celebration of the body and blood of Christ. The course demonstrates through the lens of church history the current need to communicate the redemptive story through Communion to individuals and communities with a postmodern/post-Christian worldview.
"Fascinating yet simply applied"
"For a postmodern generation with a post-christian worldview, a lived experience during Communion can become transformative. From thorough research in biblical, historical, theological, and sociological perspectives, Dr. Andrew Fox shows in this course the practice of Communion is essential in communicating an authentic message of faith, and challenges leaders to infuse its celebration with the redemptive story and creative liturgy. What he develops is fascinating and yet simply applied in this course."
-Carol Peters-Tanksley, M.D., D.Min.
"Wholeheartedly recommend"
When I first met Dr.Fox he was my professor for Old and New Testament survey. His sense of humor, passion for people, and love of the subject is evident in this course. He will captivate you with his wit and challenge you to think deeper. He has since become my mentor and most of all my friend. I wholeheartedly recommend this course."
-Ryan Grinnell, Southeastern University FL
"Challenged my thinking"
"This course challenged my thinking about who is invited to the Communion table. Does Communion create a unique opportunity to people who are seeking an experience beyond learning? Through the retelling of the redemption story in Communion, Dr.Fox demonstrates the potential impact [of] of churches all over the world. If you are looking for a full historical unpacking of the celebration of the "table" combined with current research, this course is for you."

Course Breakdown
Dr. Andrew K. Fox
My life is like climbing into the room through an open window instead of walking through the front door like everyone else. From the first season of life to the current season, everything has been the result of a conversation, not a professional resume.
From being adopted at birth, raised in Nottingham England, to falling in love with my wife, having children, and moving to the United States – it’s all been a result of conversation – and the conversation continues to this present day. How we enter life is how we do life. For me, it started with the impossible in 1968, and since that time, many impossibilities I’ve encountered in life have been made possible. This is why I love to engage with people and show them the open window.
If you walked into my office, you will find are artifacts from the year 1611, a piece of the Berlin Wall, a selection of books over two centuries old, worn leather furniture, and a large library compiling the thoughts of great thinkers. The whole room is filled with the aroma of history.
I love to teach, engage, lecture, debate, and educate. I love to help people think and learn.
I love it when people become inspired to think for themselves. It’s like waking a giant!
